{Little by little}

None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.”

{woven lives}

{magnify}

{magnify}

There I was sitting, staring at the computer screen (or if you are my nephew it’s the pooder) with a deer in headlights stare.  Trying to write a paper for school.  Key word: trying.  Unfortunately I wasn’t being very successful…. My gaze fell on the the magnifying glass and I smiled.  Through the glass I could see the weaving threads of the curtains behind.  The strands folded in and out, over and down.  Our lives our like those strands latticed together in an intricate way.  We aren’t just single pieces of thread but our lives are woven together with many other lives.  If we never touch others then we will never be part of a beautiful tapestry.  It may be messy on the back of a tapestry and honestly most people’s live have unsightly parts but in the end we will see the bigger picture and marvel.  Getting close to people can be hard but the result is worth it.  Let’s be willing to touch people’s lives in a beautiful way.

{glistening sunshine}

Where I live it rains a bit.  Actually that is a very large understatement.  It rains most of the year here, but when summer comes.  Ahhh summer.  Do you know how I am pinning away for you right now?  Looking back through some pictures taken almost two years ago helped remind me that the sky will not always drop large crystal gems.  That the sun is always shining on the other side of the soft gray cashmere blanket of sky.  When summer warmth comes it will be that much more glorious as it robes itself in flowers and a prism of colors.  And then we will twirl in the living green carpet and let the golden beams dance on our heads.

{Oh, the places you’ll go!}

The Waiting Place…

…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

NO!
That’s not for you!

Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!

Excerpts by Dr. Seuss from the book Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Don’t just spend your life waiting for something to happen to you. Go ahead and work towards your dreams.  I am giving myself permission.

{It’s coming along!!!}

{the sewing lady}

{the sewing lady}

Snip, snip, snip go the shears and the beautiful fabric creates shapes.

Tuck, tuck, tuck and the dress molds to the form of my body.

Sing, sing, sing goes the whirring of the sewing machine.

The dress is being born to life.

{These passing moments}

{this hair isn't golden...!}

{this hair isn’t golden…!}

“Oh please tell me I am dreaming??” I told myself as I took a closer look in the mirror.  Nope not dreaming.  I grabbed the little offender and yanked it out.  Examined it. Then wait for it…. “mom, Mom, MOM!!!! I have a silver hair, oh no, oh no, but I am ONLY 22!!!!!” Yep that was me freaking out as I ran to tell my mom this new woe.  My poor mom, I am always coming to her with everything and she just keeps comforting me.  She is a saint.

Today at the doctors office as I was looking out the window at the blue sky I had one of those crystal clear moments.  Azure colored sky filled the frame of the window as I waited. Within minutes the calm sky was dotted with puffy white clouds passing by.  Our lives our like this.  One moment they are clear and the next they are covered in sun obscuring clouds.  In a moment things can change.  As J. R. R. Tolkien wrote “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”  At any second I might be gone.  My one gray hair showed me again that this life is passing quickly.  What will we do with the time we have been given?  Let us not waste it.

So I took lots of pictures at the fabric store and I just have to show you all the pops of color that greeted my eyes. Fabric stores really are amazing places.  Silk, cotton, bamboo, etc. in every shade of the rainbow just waiting to be turned into something amazing and on my way through the rows I snapped these pictures.  Because really those vibrant buttons just make me smile.

{Field Trip}

So. Very. Excited!!!  While I don’t get to go on school field trips anymore the trip to the fabric store sure felt like one.  A very good one.  I even went with my teacher.  My past sewing teacher that is (and friend who might as well be family).  Rows and rows of colorful bolts of fabric (and some that looked like tar…not even joking) covered the massive sized store.  Really do we need that many choices?? I guess so…. Anyways so we looked through black fabric after black fabric and we found the one.  Yes the one to make the dress.  This may sound crazy but it felt a bit surreal.  Just wow, I am really doing this.  So I guess this means the trip was successful.  Oh except for the fact that we only got enough buttons for one dress.  Hmmm, problem.  Looks like another “field trip” is in store!

Sitting here with a tissue stuffed up my nose isn’t exactly the most fabulous thing.  Possibly funny for anyone that sees me but definitely NOT cute.  There are times when I wish that we used pretty little hankies when the sniffles and sneezes commence but since my nose has decided to try its hand at being a flowing water spigot….well let’s just say I would like to keep things at sanitary as possible.  Besides the fact that my sneezing resembles violent storm winds, I am blessed to have warm liquid steaming from my tea cup.  In the midst of this crazy life my health often decides to slow me down whether I like it or not.  So instead of fighting it I am going to be grateful that I can rest and just…breath.  So today I am thankful for funny tissue boxes, lavender tea, and cousins that say I sound like a woodcock bird. What are some things that you are thankful for today?
