{Day 277}

The other night I hosted a clothing exchange (that’s another post…) and we had a wonderful time finding “new to you” clothing.  I got this skirt, shoes (they have a cute heel but it’s getting lost in the grass), and cardigan!  One of the enjoyable parts about having these parties is the commentary that occurs.  Everyone was laughing about this skirt and how frumpy it was.  At the end of the night when it still didn’t have a home I grabbed it and decided to figure out how to make it work…and fit.  It was rather large.  But what would you know?!  A huge safety pin saved the skirt from humiliation.  I just created one box pleat in the front, pinned it, and viola! Instant problem fixer.  Very grateful for safety pins…  Anyways by pinning it I took the waist in and up which also fixed the length problem.  I really like wearing high waisted skirts because they are incredible flattering.  So that’s just a quick trick if you need to adjust a skirt. 🙂  And I don’t mind if I look like a librarian.  I rather like my librarians. 😉  Plus I hope to blog later about a book I recently finished reading and this is just to help set the tone.  Oh dear, I just went there.  Into the realm of themed dressing!  Have any quick tips for adjusting clothing that you care to share with us?  I’d love to hear in the comments!

    I enjoyed the entire outfit. My first comment to my sister was “that is a cute skirt” and then “I like the way she styled her scarf”. Please tell me your secret about the scarf loop. 😀

      Thanks! Ooo that scarf is incredibly easy to tie. I worked on a video to show you how but after watching it back I may need to make another one… :/ Until then I’ll try to explain: take the middle of the scarf (the long kind) and place that at your throat. Then cross the ends in the back and bring them around to the front. Knot the ends together and scrunch the whole thing to the side. Wa la! There you go. 🙂 Hope that makes sense. If not I’ll try to make a good video…

        That does make sense. I’ll try it. 🙂

          Perfect! Let me know how it goes. 🙂

    I agree with Rachel. I have a scarf just like that and am delighted with how you styled the scarf. Do tell us how you did it, please? 🙂

      Thank you! Okay I tried to talk you through it in the comment above. 🙂 Hope that helps!

        I tried it out and I think it worked – I just didn’t realize you used such a long scarf because mine came out a lot shorter and didn’t have such nice dangles as yours… 🙂 How long is your scarf anyway? Thanks for the description – I’m eager to wear my scarf like this! -Nicole

          Yay! Yes, a long skinny rectangular scarf is the best. 🙂 Hmm not sure how long mine is. Probably 4 feet or more.

    Love your outfit! I think your skirt looks quite adorable and not at all frumpy! And the print is pretty interesting. 🙂 I think a box pleat in the middle is probably the easiest way to repair a skirt. Then usually I just sew it in so that it stays put. 😀 Another quick fix I sometimes do for loose skirts is to wear a tight belt around the waist and sort of create a bit of gathers around, but this doesn’t really work for all kinds of skirts. 🙂

      Thanks! It’s fun when something comes together in an unexpected way that works how you envisioned it. Oh the print is so very fun! I really like that the print is kinda vintage. Haha I really should sew mine so it stays…not to mention that it would look better. I want to try your idea of the tight belt around a loose skirt. 🙂

    I love how you styled your scarf! A box pleat is definitely a quick fix for a loose skirt. If I have a skirt that’s a little loose, I get it situated where I want it and then place a wide belt around the top to hold it in place, stretchy ones work the best. Works like a charm! I also really like high-waisted skirts. They’re flattering and very vintage, which I love!

      Thanks! Pretty sure a friend taught me how to tie it that way. 🙂 I like the idea of belting a large skirt. Although I think I would be afraid that it would fall off… I’m with you on the high-waisted skirt thing! 🙂
