IMG_6220Considering that I have 545 kiddos in India I think it’s about time that I wore a sari on this blog! Now of course I couldn’t just wear it like you’re supposed to. 😉  I’m currently in Santa Barbara, CA visiting my very dear friend and sister Paige and her sweet baby.  Since she normally lives in India with our kiddos it is a special gift to be here with her.  It is only fitting that I should wear her beautiful sari in honor of the orphans we both love.  This fabric is intricate and detailed.  It is woven in a complex pattern with swirls and curves and light.  It shimmers gold radiance when the sun glances upon it.  Hidden amongst the generous folds lie hundreds of sparkling rhinestones scattered across the fabric like stars glistening and twinkling in the blanket of the night sky.  What astonishes me is how we are all woven together and our lives fold into each others and cascade into one anothers lives.  Each strand is important for the beauty of the whole silk piece.  Each life is valuable in the tapestry of history.  Yes, each one counts.  The threads must touch each other in order for the beauty to emerge.  We too need to interact and be up close with people for the design to emerge in our lives and theirs.  I thought by being involved in our kiddos lives that they would be blessed but I’ve found once again that the scriptures are true in saying, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”.  They’ve given to me in more ways than I can count.  I want the Son to shine on us that we would reflect Him more and more.  That together, all these lives intertwined, we would be a glorious praise to Jesus.  Are you willing to let others in?  Are you willing to enter the sometimes (most times) crazy weaving for others sake?  The top side of a tapestry is beautiful but the underside is often knotted and confusing.  Usually we see the underside.  Yet, if we could see the top it would take our breath away.  Often I get glimpses of the top side when I see what my sweet kiddos in India have the opportunity to become because people like Paige and her husband Sean are willing to live their lives right up close with these children.  Sadly I don’t get to be in India but since my thread touches Paige’s then I get to be that much closer to those sweet little lives.  Will you reach out and touch the treads of lives near and far?  Would you be willing to give a gift that will bless you in return?  Will you donate today even $5 dollars?  It counts.  It matters.  It doesn’t go unnoticed.  A touched life never does.  May our lives sparkle and shine for the sake of others and reflect the light we’ve been given.

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ… but in fact, God has placed the many parts of the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be?” – 1 Corinthians 12:12, 18-19

This post reminded me of this passage, I just read it this morning. In life, we all have different talents, different personalities, and different plans that God has put in place for us. At times, we see the life that someone else lives as exceptionally more significant than our own, viewing ours as unimportant in comparison. The task that God gives to you may vary greatly from the one He gives to me, or anyone else for that matter, but that doesn’t mean that our task is insignificant. The “behind-the-scenes” work is just as important as the “on-stage” work. And without one, the other cannot function. I was reminded of this as I read your post. Without the support, prayers, and donations from here, at home, the missionaries, orphanages, and care-giving foundations cannot function overseas, and vice versa. We each have our place and that place is no more or less important than the others, because together it becomes something infinitely more beautiful than we could be on our own. Just like your sari 🙂

You are so beautiful. Inside and out. 🙂 God has blessed you.

You should read Tiger’s Curse (and the 3 books following it). It’s set in India. 😀 And the story/writing is awesome.
