I’ve always wanted to travel to France and see, amongst a long list of things, the legendary lavender fields. Since plans to jet across the Atlantic are no where in site I was pleasantly surprised to pass a lavender field while winding through the old historic highway in the gorge. I stepped out of my car and was instantly enchanted by the sweeping azure blanket. The sun high in the clear blue above coaxed the most heavenly fragrance to hang all sultry around. Baskets of supplies for cutting the slender stems beckoned me to snip away and create a bouquet to carry the calm back home. Bees hummed in and out and all over the flowers drinking in sweetness as I drank in the moment. Those moments that make you stop and let you relax. Hazy summer days of happiness that I wish I could bottle up and uncork every now and then. I was grateful and delighted to just be alive. Lavender may have healing properties, but gratefulness mends something even deeper, our souls. Gratefulness brings true calm. So here’s to beautiful moments treasured and remembered. What summer day captured your heart this year? I’d love to hear about it in the comment below!
“And Lavender, whose spikes of azure bloom
Shall be, ere-while, in arid bundles bound,
To lurk amidst the labours of her loom,
And crown her kerchiefs clean, with mickle rare perfume.”
William Shenstone The School Mistress 1742

beautiful shots and how amazing that there was such a field for you to go to in general!!
Thank you! Rachel snapped them on her iphone. 🙂 It was such a gift to find this field. Just like the Lord to let me discover more of his stunning creation. He’s so good.
“What summer day captured your heart this year?” I’d say some of the things that have captured my heart this summer are the wide open spaces of hay fields that are reached after driving through grass paths and water ways, driving down a gravel road with dear people while listening to music . . . God’s creation is so lovely and getting to experience good times with people I love is the best! 🙂
Moriah that sounds absolutely delightful! Thanks for painting a picture so that I could travel there in my imagination. 🙂 It really is a gift to be able to explore creation with the people you love! 🙂
The lavender amongst the evergreens, basking in the warm sunlight. How beautiful. Very early one morning this summer I woke up, from a restless night, to a quiet house, as everyone still slept. I was unable to fall back to sleep so I meandered through the house and found myself sitting on our front porch swing. An enormous park, complete with a lake, lies just across the street, and I watched while the rest of the town lie dormant as the sun arose and poked its fingers of light from the horizon, one by one. It climbed higher, and stretched its warm sunbeams all around, through the trees and up onto our porch, descending on my face. And I felt at peace. It was so simple, yet so picturesque. In that still, quiet moment, I was reminded how we are each and every one a part of something unbelievable. We have been given something so spectacular, so amazing. And life itself and how God has placed us here on earth is so amazing. We often take it all for granted, but in that sunrise I felt Him with me, holding me close and whispering through His creation His might and His love. It brought back a fresh and new perspective once again. And it was perfect.
Alesha, thank you for sharing this. It’s exactly what I’ve been learning. And reading your beautiful description made me pause and just enjoy your words. Thank you.
