{Day 126}

I love enjoyable “firsts”.  Like the first time seeing my nephew ride his bike or my first time in a wedding.  Last night I saw a movie outdoors for the first time and it was such fun.  Sometimes firsts come in the form of little things but they can definitely be big as well.  What are some of your favorite firsts? A visit to a country you have never been to or a taste of a new food?  Maybe something you were scared to do but did anyways and loved it?  If you can’t think of anything that you have done recently that is a “first” then I would challenge you to go find something new whether it be a different style of books to read or a visit to a park you have never been to.  Looking forward to hearing about your “firsts” in the comments. 🙂

UPDATE:  $35,254.45 😀

    Firsts *are* great fun 🙂
What are my firsts….My family went to Australia last year! big first.
and there were a lot of firsts there, first time seeing a sea turtle in the wild(on the reef!), first time seeing a shark in the wild, first time out of the country…..

Miss Elaini, I think what you’re doing for these orphans is awesome.

Wow that is a big first. I have a friend in Australia that I have never met and I can’t wait to have that “first” time to visit her experience. Sounds like you had an incredible time! Thank you for sharing. 🙂

Firsts are fun! (Most of the time anyways =\).
The first time I saw stars fall was amazing! Now that I think about it, I think must be giddy every time we bask in the amazingness of His Creation. I know that I would super happy if people found something I created beautiful.
I remember the first time I read a book all by myself! 😀
And I remember the first book I checked out of a library!

    Oh I could go on!!!

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:15 pm #

Yeah not all firsts are good but I like to dwell on the good ones. 🙂 I can totally understand the giddy feeling you are talking about in regards to creation. You put that perfectly. I think the first book I read by myself was probably a Bob book. “Bob sat. Bob sat on mat…..” 😀 I wish I could remember the first library book I checked out. I love books!
Feel free to go on. 🙂

One of my “firsts” would be when I was three. It was a rule in our house that we couldn’t chew gum until the age of three to prevent choking. When my turned came around, I was SO stoked!!!! A simple thing like gum made me happy, not because it was amazing, but because I had to wait for it.

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:16 pm #

LOL!!! I totally enjoyed reading this. I can just see your adorable self being thrilled and that beautiful smile of your stretching a mile wide! 🙂 Thanks for putting this on here. I agree that simple things become special when we have to wait for them.

Hmm, I don’t know if I have done many firsts recently. I am about to start driving, so I suppose that is a first. Last year I rode a horse for the first time, that was exciting.

I love today’s outfit! That white skirt is very graceful. I have always wanted to go to an outdoor movie theater, it sounds so fun.

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:20 pm #

Driving is a VERY big first. I hope it goes well for you! Riding a horse does sound exciting. I’ve been on a horse but never really ridden one. Sadly I’m allergic to them. 🙁
Oh I’m glad you like today’s outfit. That skirt has a story…I saw a similar one on the runway of Ralph Lauren years ago but couldn’t find anything similar for less (sadly I tend to have expensive taste…). So after searching and searching my mom finally said that I should just make one. Thus that skirt. 🙂
You should go to an outdoor movie viewing if you get the chance. It is fun!

During my first week of employment with Warm Blankets back in April, our staff received an email about a girl in Oregon who was about to launch a very unique fundraising campaign for the orphans of India. After reading more about the girl and her enthusiasm for her “One Dress-100 Days” project, I must admit, I was skeptical. As the days passed, and God faithfully provided an abundance of blessings through this remarkable girl wearing a little black dress, my skepticism began to fade. Around Day 52, I began reading her blog, and her boundless joy and eternal hope jumped off the screen and into my brain, forcing me to try and recall a time when, if ever, I had felt such limitless joy, hope and gratitude for my own God-given life. Hard as I tried, I could not remember. Elaini, you already know how thankful we are at Warm Blankets are for all you do to help us save the precious orphans of India. But in addition to that, I want you to know how personally grateful I am for every second of inspiration you’ve provided this reformed skeptic and recovering optimist throughout “100 days” and beyond. Love and blessings…

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:22 pm #

Wow. I am SO grateful that I was able to be an encouragement to you. Thank you for blessing me by telling me what God has done in your heart through this project. It is always an encouragement to me to see how people’s lives are being touched. And I love to call Warm Blankets so I can hear your cheery voice on the other end. 🙂 Love and blessing to you too!

Ooh that sounds like so much fun. My mom used to take me to a lot of plays and musicals as a child at the Children’s Theater. Such happy memories. 🙂

Well my dear friend I will never forget the first time becoming a mom times 3. Giving birth to triplets was beyond words and changed me forever. After that came tons of firsts: first time only getting one hour sleep (really find what you are made of, yikes), first time holding all three at one time etc. Great question! Much love and big hugs Elaini!!

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:27 pm #

That is an incredible first. So lovely. I understand how that would leave you beyond having words….what a powerful event. Much love to you and sending you big hugs back!

  9. Ashley September 3, 2011 at 1:19 pm #

My “first” was becoming a big sister to an adorable baby girl when I was 12. I’m lovin’ it
    ;-).

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:30 pm #

Love it! I always wanted to be a big sister. Since I’m the youngest and didn’t get that opportunity I do love being an auntie. 🙂
As a side note: As she grows up she will be watching you. You have more influence in her life than you can even begin to imagine. Take it from a little sis. 🙂 (My sister is 13 years older than me)

I remember the first time I got to fly in a plane, all alone, to Florida for the FIRST time!!!

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:30 pm #

      That’s really cool!

  11. Katie Joy September 3, 2011 at 3:01 pm #

I love firsts! I remember my first lie (did not love that). I also started ‘driving’ recently (my Dad takes me to a different school parking lots and lets me get behind the wheel). Exciting! But, if you live in Indiana, you might want to stay on the highways, I’m not allowed to go on those babies yet! LOL 🙂

Love the outfit, especially the skirt. So pretty. I like some items from other days too, but if I typed it all out………………………………………………it would get really long!! LOL

    Katie Joy 🙂

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:33 pm #

I remember my dad taking me to a school parking lot in the evening and teaching me to drive. 🙂 That is a big first. Happy you are getting the chance to experience that.
Glad you like the skirt (and other things too!). Sadly I somehow stained the back of it…. 🙁 You can read the story about that skirt in a comment above. 🙂

    What a fun thought –
I remember the first time I crossed the street alone – about age 6 – I waited a looonnng time as I had to wait for lights to change and I wasn’t quite sure when it was my turn. I waited through a few rotations, but remembering my mom’s instructions, I finally crossed when the cross-walk sign showed ‘white’. A lady in her car smiled and nodded as i entered the intersection and so I made it through my first crossing.
It’s fun to remember ‘firsts’ – thanks for this little exercise down memory lane. 🙂

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:35 pm #

That’s adorable. You were such a good little girl. 🙂 Yeah I have been having a fun time remembering firsts today as I have read everyone’s comments. 🙂

  13. Moriah Ortega September 3, 2011 at 6:22 pm #

I remember when I joined my speech and debate club and gave my first speech. I was VERY nervous. That was about three years ago, now I really enjoy speaking. It is neat how some firsts can really change and challenge you. 🙂

Okay funny thing now, my father pulled up to the stoplight today and there in front of us were three cars lined up that all had personalized license plates (that was a first:) ). It made me think of your post – so, I thought I would tell!

    • misselaini September 3, 2011 at 6:38 pm #

Oh speech and debate!!! I wasn’t just nervous for my first speech but all the ones after as well! It is exciting to hear how you stretched yourself and how you now enjoy speaking. Thanks for sharing that. Also thanks for sharing about the license plates. I really enjoy things like that! 🙂

      • Moriah Ortega September 3, 2011 at 7:44 pm #

I enjoy getting to hear about others who have been in speech and debate! Even though I now enjoy it, I can still get nervous walking up there. 🙂

Your welcome. I thought you might. 🙂 Those kinds of things can be fun.

Your outfit is simply gorgeous. YOU are simply gorgeous.

Stepping onto the Selah was the first time I had been on a sailboat full stop. A very enjoyable first. Had a lot of fun. 🙂

    • misselaini September 4, 2011 at 11:37 pm #

You are to sweet my lovely friend but thank you! 🙂
You know how jealous I am about you getting that chance. 😉 But very happy for you too!

I recently traveled to Boston for the NCFCA speech and debate Championship. This was my first time flying, first time competing at that level and my first time on the East coast. It was scary, challenging and SO rewarding! God taught me an incredible amount about trusting in Him on that trip =)

    • misselaini September 4, 2011 at 11:55 pm #

Is that like Nationals? I went to the NCFCA speech and debate nationals years ago and yes it was scary, challenging, and so good for me. I learned a lot about trusting God through that as well. I’m so happy you had that experience and congratulations for getting so far! 😀
