Life is such an interesting adventure. It’s beautiful, messy, hard, complex, simple, exciting, depressing, wonderful, real, and fill in the blank. Even though life is so intricately woven we often only see a certain side of that in people. Creating an “identity” is even easier in our social media saturated world. For the most part my experience has been that people (including myself) tend to only put up the beautiful parts of life, save for that occasional depressed person who always seem inconsolable…
Picture perfect
Now here’s the thing. I think beauty and optimism are incredibly important and I appreciate them. We should encourage those things and participate in them. Sometimes though the perfectly filtered and posed photos on Instagram and the brilliantly worded posts on Facebook aren’t always helpful. While we know everyone puts the best of their life on the forefront we can tend to forget that it’s not the whole picture.
Pinterest fail
So last week when I was over at my beautiful friend Kiersta’s house creating Valentines I asked her to snap this photo. You see these Oreo pops originated as a result of a perfectly lighted and mouth watering picture on Pinterest. After several failed attempts though on our part we were laughing and saying things along the lines of “Pinterest you lie!” In the end we did succeed in figuring out our own steps that worked but at first it was a huge failure. Of course my first thought was to post a picture of a perfect Orea pop on Instagram but after thinking about for a moment I put up one like this. Every once in a while I think it’s good to see the project that didn’t turn out or the not so cute picture. Oh! Is that an awkward hand hold? You betcha.
Have you had a failed project that you didn’t share because it’s not the norm? I’d love to hear your experience in the comments below! 🙂

Hmmm.. I once thought it would be cool to get my hair ‘frosted.’ So during the process my hair Saloonist messed up. My hair turned out orange. Additionally her coworker proceeded to hit on me. Unfortunately he was a man. Lesson learned kids don’t get your hair frosted. Additionally, don’t get tattoos. Just listen to your parents. Oh, boomerangs will hit you in the back of the head if your not watching (another story). Yes, failed projects suck. However I feel that I don’t fail enough, because failure produces humility.
Haha oh my! I laughed so hard!!! I’m sorry your “fails” were a bit more permanent…but thanks for sharing with us! We’ve all been there with similar things. It’s great when we can laugh at ourselves though. 🙂
I just had an experience like this! My sister and I attempted to make flour-less almond butter cookies, and I posted a photo on Instagram before we baked them. Then the cookies turned out horribly. I hoped no one would ask how they were, or how to make them, but of course, somebody did! So I had to admit they were a failure. The failure turned into lots of fun though because we didn’t want to throw the gooey cookie mess away (since the ingredients were expensive) so we brainstormed what we could do with a cookie dough mess. Our first thought was to spread it on toast like chocolaty nut butter, but it was too sweet for that. So we threw the concoction into the Vitamix and blended it up with coconut yogurt, then we froze our creation. We now have pretty interesting frozen yogurt… and to think it came from a cookie recipe. 🙂
Wow! I have to say you ladies really persevered through that! Way to go. 🙂 Thanks for sharing. It’s interesting to hear what other people have experienced with projects gone awry and funny too!
