Last night I sat down on the bench that was so familiar and in the middle of the stillness I laid my fingers down to touch the the melody makers in front of me. I used to play my piano with such ease. I spent hours upon hours practicing so I would be perfect. The songs would flow off the pages into my soul and come out like fairy dust making my fingers fly. I wish I could fully describe the way that playing the piano makes me feel. As if my soul was flying. When I have no words left I can go to my beautiful instrument and speak a language that even words can’t always express. Any emotion can be given utterance. I realized though last night that I had forgotten so much since I don’t practice anymore. Practice isn’t always easy but it is rewarding. Is there some lost joy that you miss? Don’t let it fade. We should be beauty makers. I wrote much more poetically about my piano, beauty, and pain here. Do you play an instrument? If so what and how does it make you feel? Or do you have a song you really just enjoy? As always would love to hear about it in the comments. 🙂
Btw I just threw this outfit on because I literally had 2 minutes to take pictures…
You can see the awesome detail of this belt here. 🙂
(I love that the post number is 123…if you have been reading for a while you’ll know why.)
UPDATE: $34,929.60 😀 More babies getting fed!
Dear Elaini,
Um I used to play the piano it was so fun to make compositions they came of of my figures and into melodies they were the most fun I ever had with piano though do to the fact that we might get flooded our entire basement moved into our garage and well it under a large blanket and a ladder I haven’t be able to practice since I aim to play some more when it once again returns to the basement. As to your outfit I thought it was really cute! 🙂

Oh that is so sad that your piano is not accessible. 🙁 I’m sorry. I hope that you are able to move it back quickly!
So glad you like the outfit. 🙂
I play the violin. It’s my favorite instrument to listen to by far, especially when someone is playing Folk or Celtic music, but I don’t get the extreme enjoyment out of it as some people do.
However, I also sing. And each year at Christmastime my choir does the Hallelujah Chorus and a small piece of the Messiah. And that I can tell, is amazing. You have no idea how powerful that piece is until you are singing it yourself, then it just flows through you and vibrates into the air. Amazing.
Hurrah! We’ll see $50,000 yet!
Celtic music is just wonderful.
I sing as well and two years ago I was part of a huge choir. It.was.incredible. Singing the Hallelujah Chorus must be absolutely amazing. That’s something I would love to experience someday. I went at Christmas time last year with a bunch of friends to hear it and I got goosebumps it was so lovely and powerful.
In this picture you look so much like your sister, and in yesterdays you look just like your mom! Keep up the great work! It is admirable that you are continuing on!
Thank you Liz! I think they are both lovely so that is quite the compliment. 🙂 Thanks for your encouragement.
YAY! Your total went up again! Even though you just threw it on, it looks really nice! I LOVE your belt! Is it a dragon?
M.J.A.
I know it is SO exciting to see it go up and know that those darlings are going to benefit from it. 🙂
Thanks! I think the belt is some type of bird….bird/dragon? 😀
Cute! 🙂
Thank you!
🙂
You describe my thoughts perfectly! I used to come home everyday after school and sit down to “unwind”. My mom says that was what she missed most when I moved away to get married.
Over the years the piano truly served as my counselor, my comforter, my dreams, my expression of worship…..it truly was a great joy to tinker at the keys – just for me. I was never a performer, although I did accompany at church and other events from time to time – but, that wasn’t for me. The pure enjoyment of just playing for my own pleasure was all I needed.
Like you, it’s been a long while since I’ve actually spent time at the keys. Yet, when I find I have a few moments of solitude, the ivories beckon me.
Thanks for this little reflection….
And what JOY to see the numbers going up!
Yes my parents love it when I sit down to play but I don’t ever really perform either. YOU described my thoughts perfectly! Thanks Sandi. 🙂
Ah yes, how I miss music! After I got sick, I had to give up my clarinet/flute and it’s been lonely ever since. There is just something about getting lost in the music. I remember during concerts I would perform in, it would be like the music became a part of me. It’s incredibly hard to explain…unless you play any form of instrument. 😀 Though I have played once or twice since getting sick, I still haven’t gotten back to playing all the time. Someday though, someday!!! When that doesn’t wear me out 🙂
Yay! Praise God for that total 😀
I pray you feel better soon so that you can play. When I was so very sick for those few years I couldn’t really play at all because my arms were so bloody and beat up that I couldn’t move them. I remember going to my piano and sitting on the bench and just crying because I felt like a part of me had died…. I REALLY want you to be able to play again. I’m sure you sound lovely. Jesus please give Laura the strength she needs to play again and if that is not what you have right now then let her have music in her soul.
This is a gorgeous outfit, Elaini.
Funny you should post about piano, I have recently been inspired to take up where I left off with my piano pursuits and a couple of days ago trekked to the library and got myself some ‘teach-yourself-piano’ books. Very excited for the prospect of allowing my soul a passage of flight.
Here is a piece that (you probably already know how to play) I so want to learn. http://youtu.be/6NAeMGn8m14

I loved the youtube video! Thanks for sharing. Beautiful music 🙂
Thank you my friend. 🙂 I am so glad you are pursuing piano. I don’t think it will disappoint. 🙂
Thank you for posting that link! I love it…I will not tell you how many times I watched it… I have heard that piece somewhere but I don’t remember where. Do you know what it is called and where I could find it? I want to learn it!

You know what?! I believe a friend of mine was able to contacted ‘someone’ and asked for the sheet music so I’ll see if I can get it for you next time I see her and then I’ll scan it in and send your way. 🙂
That would be amazing if it isn’t too much trouble! Thank you!
Pretty! 🙂 I wish I could play it too.
Well, I play the harp. It has been a dream of mine ever since I was six. What a challenging, and yet rewarding instrument. I am finding that being a harpist is about the hardest thing I could have dreamed to do and yet, there are few things that make me happier. Music is such a blessing!
Rachel I adore that you play the harp. Such a beautiful instrument that few have the perseverance to learn. I am proud of you for challenging yourself and going for your dream! 🙂 I hope to hear you play someday.
I play piano, guitar and mandolin. Best a piano! 🙂 I love playing classical pieces on it. I know: Chopin’s Prelude in E minor, A Canon (written by my Mom), The Skater’s Waltz, Sonatina (by Clementi) and others. Music IS a blessing!!! I am saving my pennies to buy a harp some year. Ha! 😉
Blessings,
Jo
Wow that is impressive! Yes I love classical too. 🙂 That was what I was taught from age 7 to age 17. And Chopin makes me swoon….
You and Rachel should be friends! You both like harps. 😉
Well, scientifically classical music is better for your health. That’s what I’ve read. Rock music and anything close to rock music causes heart problems (like irregular heart beat), etc. I personally just can’t stand rock music!!! I do confess that I like some jazz-ier pieces– not modern, but like Big Band. 🙂
I love Chopin’s music too!!! 🙂 Yeah, I guess Rachel and I could get along quite well together.
Blessings,
Jo
J0, I know how you feel. Right now I am saving for a pedal harp and they are soooo expensive! One more goal I am working on.
~Rachel
So you already had a harp? I don’t yet. 🙁 But I *think* I’m almost to the amount I’ll need for the harp.
I love the fact that classical music is good for your health. 🙂
I have a lever harp. They are great for beginning harpists. I love my harp to death, but now I am getting to the point where a pedal harp is necessary for the pieces I am learning. What kind of harp are you looking at buying?
Ikr!
Not to be dumb, but what does Ikr sad for?
Rachel I had the same question! Had to google it….. 🙂
Sorry, I meant “stand for” not “sad for” 😛
i LOVE the outfit today!! it’s so cute!!
Thanks Abby! I’m glad you like it. 🙂
That comment was too Miss Elaini. Sorry to confuse you! But ‘ikr’ stands for ‘I know, right’. 🙂 It = “I agree”.
I am looking to buy a lever harp (heather harp). Pedal harps are beyond my budget currently. 🙁
