“It’s a small world.” Ever heard that line before? Usually it is in the context of talking about how one person knows that person and so on and so forth. Honestly though most of the time I don’t feel like it is that small. I mean “my” sweet orphans feel far away. I love them but I have never had the opportunity to connect with them. Yet this blog has showed me differently. Here’s the crazy, cool story: I “met” an incredible girl via this blog (actually I have “met” a lot of incredible people through this blog…). We emailed back and forth. We became good friends. She lives in Australia. That’s one third of the story. Another third of the story is that I have friends from here who have been on an EPIC sailing trip from America down to..wait for it…Australia for the last six months. A few days ago I found out that they docked in Brisbane. Annnnddd that’s where my Aussie friend comes in for the other third of this story. I Facebooked her and told her they were in the same city as she is!!! They ended up being 15 minutes away from each other… She is part of a film production team so naturally she wanted to interview them. In something like 48 hours from the time I told her about it she had met them. Between all of us we have been sending messages back and forth like crazy. I like to think of it as popcorn mail. 😉 As soon as you write to one person another email or message pops up. It is so funny how friends from here could meet a good friend of mine who I have never technically met all because of one Facebook wall post! I guess it is a small world after all… I’d LOVE to hear about any “small world” stories you might have. Leave em’ in the comments if you get a chance! 🙂
I love your dress in this post! so cute and colorful, yet modest! I have such trouble finding modest dresses that are not too expensive! Do you have any suggestions?
Yes, we do live in such a “small world”:
It was the day of my sisters brain surgery and everything had happened suddenly. The day before she was living a normal life, and in a split second she was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Long story short…our church gathered around us and everyone was in constant prayer, but what was really amazing was that an email we sent out to some long time friends in the U.S. asking for prayer was sent out to all of their friends and so forth. People I have never met praying for a little girl in a surgery that lasted all day. We had people we knew in S. Africa praying, people in Germany praying, and then one of the coolest things happened. A gentleman from our church emailed all his friends, including his relative who was a nun in Ireland, asking them to pray, and she replied saying that that day, May 11, was the monasteries scheduled prayer day where they spent the whole day in prayer…they would be praying for my sister! God can work in mighty ways!
Katrina that is a beautiful and very touching story. Thank you for letting us in on that challenging time in your life and that very special email you heard about.
I really love this dress to! The color and the details. It was birthday gift. 🙂 Inexpensive, modest dresses are hard to come by for sure. Hmm. This website has a wide array of dresses and prices and you might find something there. Also Shabby Apple has a lot of great dresses although the price may be more than you are looking for. This website might be the better pick for inexpensive. Hope that helps!
Love the way He works these things out. It’s been exciting watching Him work it all out. And I like the way you described all the connecting and the messaging – like popcorn mail. Haha. True story. Good times. Looking forward to when we are able to meet in person.
I agree! And I can’t wait to meet you dear. 🙂
P.S Very much like your outfit. Been feeling the need for similar summer dresses of late – spring has arrived!
Thanks! Ahh fall is coming here. Sounds like I need to come your way! 🙂
Dear Elaini,
Popcorn mail yes it does seem like that sometimes doesn’t it?
I love your outfit today my goodness how are you able
to find such great stuff!?
Yours Truly
Poem Girl or S
I suppose so!
I am delighted you like the outfit. 🙂 And I look and look till I find what I want. It isn’t always easy but definitely worth it!
Hmmm…”small world” stories…I love those! 😀
Your small world story is just wonderful! I have several friends in different parts of the world and it would be amazing to actually meet them. Hopefully, Lord willing, you’ll meet your Aussie friend 🙂
Cute dress, by the way!
I hope I get to meet her too! I know what you mean about having friends all over the world that you have never met. It is wonderful but also hard as well because you want to be able to do things with them.
Thanks and glad you like the dress. It is one of my favorites.
Oh! I forgot to ask you a question…
I read in another comment on one of your posts that texting ORPHAN to 52000 donate $10 toward your goal. When we send the text, that’s just a one time donation correct? Or does it keep taking $10 until we tell it to stop (or something)?
It is a one time donation for every time you text the word ORPHAN to that number. It doesn’t keep taking $10 dollars. 🙂 I hope I explained that alright…
That green dress is adorable, and I just love those shoes! But I have a hinting suspicion that I would be begging for bare feet before long. 😉
I don’t really know anyone across the world. But my brother has made connections like that through his design work. It really is a small world. Especially when you think of how big God is, and how enormous the universe is. Yet to us little humans, our planet seems pretty small.
I have made several friends online in a funny way though. I have a friend that I go to church with, she introduced me to her friend who lives in another town. Then after getting to know that girl she said that she had told her cousin about me and her cousin wanted to start writing. Eventually after writing the cousin for a while and doing some emailing I was chatting one day and the cousin said she had a friend that wanted to get to meet me. Oh the power of the internet! And I don’t even have a Facebook.
BTW- I love Katrina’s story, that is such a beautiful picture of how God works on our behalf. We are never alone in our trials.
Thanks and the shoes are actually surprisingly comfortable. 🙂
Wow your story is amazing! How much fun you must be having!
And yes Katrina’s story is so beautiful.
Wow! your dress is so cute!
Thanks Amy! 🙂
I’m actually kind of right in the middle of ‘popcorn’ mail……I met a girl at my church (only came for a visit, lives in another town), and I saw her at one of the Rebelution conferences recently and she also replied me on one of the comments that I made. I think God has a hand in this! I was talking to my Mom (love that woman, so sweet!) and she said ‘God wants you two to be friends!’ I think He does! 🙂
Katie Joy 🙂
I think God does have a hand in that. I love how you love your mom. My mom is my best friend. 🙂
Aw… that’s sweet how you and your mom are besties! 😉
We have have way to much fun together!
Wow that is such a pretty dress!!!
Thank you Sofia! 🙂
the only small world story I know is that somehow I heard about my husband without really knowing a thing about him or ever seeing him a whole year before I met him (and located about 45-60 minutes from where I heard about him). It took about another year before piecing it together that he was the person that someone mentioned to me. It’s a really long story missing many interesting details but it is interesting how stuff happens like that.
That’s pretty neat! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 I love stories about how people met and such.
